A Helping Hand
A Helping Hand is a nonprofit that has served adults ages 65 and older and individuals with disabilities living in the Triangle area since 1995. We ensure the most senior members of our community and adults with temporary and permanent disabilities are able to remain independent and enjoy a high quality of life.
A Helping Hand offers transportation, in-home assistance and caregiver respite provided by trained companions. Whether you need an escort for routine visits to the doctor’s office or you need around-the-clock care, we are here to help.
A Helping Hand companions can assist with the following tasks:
- Escorted transportation to medical appointments, procedures, errands or social outings
- Medication reminders
- Grocery shopping and meal preparation
- Light housekeeping such as changing sheets, doing laundry and cleaning dishes
- Caregiver respite
- And much more.

A Helping Hand is the only nonprofit in the Triangle that offers companionship and in-home assistance for individuals of all income levels.
We know how important it is for our clients to have a good relationship with our companions founded on trust and mutual respect. That’s why we ensure the best match possible by pairing clients with high-caliber companions who have similar interests and by scheduling the same individuals to work with you or your loved one whenever possible.
Our companions undergo a thorough screening process that includes an in-person interview, a background check and review of references. A Helping Hand companions are educated and professional, and many have special skills and talents.
